Without doubt one of the most powerful attractions of Brook Green and Brackenbury is an incomparable network of transport links. The Central Line from Shepherd’s Bush and the Piccadilly, District and Hammersmith & City Lines from Hammersmith take Underground travellers straight to the heart of the commercial and financial districts of London. There are overland connections from both Kensington Olympia and also the new terminal at Shepherds Bush, taking you to hubs such as Clapham Junction in moments.
There’s also a web of bus connections; take a No 94 or a No 10 for a short hop to the wealth of shopping in Oxford Street or return to nature in minutes via a No 283 (the “Duck Bus”) to the award-winning Wetland Centre. More than a dozen other bus routes connect local residents to locations all over London, most notably from Hammersmith Broadway, a veritable hub of transport activity! The area also boasts Underground and Airport Bus services directly to Heathrow Airport.
Reaching Heathrow, Gatwick or Luton airports by road is also convenient. Brook Green slips neatly between two major road arteries, the A4/M4 and the A40/M40 with its easy connection to the M1.
Both Brook Green and Brackenbury are villages at heart, with a community of shops ranging from butchers to bakers, dry cleaners to post offices, plus delicious delicatessens, notably Brook's on Shepherds Bush Road and the Chez Kristoff delicatessen on Hammersmith Grove. There are also delightful specialist shops such as Holloways of Ludlow, Innes and Innes, Greens the Florist, and Oliver Bonas, ideal for present shopping or a touch of self-indulgence.
For the more practical matters in life, a discreetly placed Tesco can be found on the edge of Brook Green. In addition, Marks and Spencer and Safeway are
located amongst a wealth of High Street retailers on Hammersmith's King Street.
This niche of West London is full of playtime activities. Hammersmith offers amongst other things, a number of bars, notably the Hit Bar on Shepherds Bush Road and The Grove on Hammersmith Grove. Shepherds Bush's W12 centre has a 12-screen Vue cinema as well as various pubs and restaurants. The Shepherds Bush Empire holds regular live music events, often the perfect place to catch a star band in the making.
The new Westfield London shopping centre, offering over 265 high street and designer stores, cafes, restaurants and more, is sure to be a destination for a dreary Saturday and is rapidly raising the profile of the Shepherds Bush area. Westfield also houses an impressive Waitrose, Natwest, Halifax and Boots Opticians, bringing practical services under one roof and onto your doorstep.
The Finlay Brewer team can recommend a variety of restaurants in the area. Our favourites include Chez Kristoff for upmarket British dishes with a twist, Le Cinnamon and Karma for the ultimate indian experience and The Havelock Tavern, The Bird in Hand, The Old Parr's Head and The Anglesea Arms for wonderful gastro pub or Thai food.
Those energetic enough to make it to the gym will not be disappointed! The luxurious Virgin Active can be found on Hammersmith Road, to the south of Brook Green; Fitness First boasts two branches on Hammersmith Grove and in the W12 Centre, with competitive membership rates. There is also the newly renovated Squash and Fitness Centre under the Novotel in Hammersmith Broadway, with impressive facilities.
